REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Prabowo Subianto reiterated Indonesia's commitment to supporting the Palestinian independence struggle and called on the Islamic world to unite to confront global challenges. Prabowo made the statement during the opening of The 19th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States (PUIC) and Related Meetings held at the Nusantara MPR/DPR/DPD RI Building, Senayan, Central Jakarta on Wednesday (14/5/2025) evening WIB.
“In this forum, the time has come, let's not just discuss, let's not draft resolutions anymore, the Palestinian people have been victims for too long, the Palestinians need an alignment, a real action,” Prabowo said.
He said Indonesia would continue to stand with the Palestinians and support their right to independence. Prabowo also called for Islamic countries to put aside differences and prioritize the common interests of the people.
“This struggle will be stronger if we, the Islamic world, the Islamic countries representing a quarter of humanity can unite. Let us overcome our differences, let us overcome the rivalry between us, let us look at the important things which are the salvation of Muslims. Let us see the future of Islamic civilization,” Prabowo said.
In his speech, Prabowo also recalled the importance of naming major figures in Islamic history. Among them, Salahuddin Al-Ayyubi, Umar ibn Khattab, and Muhammad Al-Fatih who advocated justice, compassion, science, and devotion to the people.
“In a world still rife with hatred and violence, this denouement shows that the true strength of a leader is compassion, a sense of humanity, and a determination to always protect the weak,” Prabowo said.
He also called for unity among Islamic nations to reclaim a strategic position in science, technology, and the advancement of civilization. Prabowo believes that Muslims can again lead the world if they unite and put the welfare of the people first.
“Islam once led the world in civilization, in science and technology, and we must return to science and technology so that we can improve our well-being,” Prabowo said.
Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Body (BKSAP) of DPR RI Mardani Ali Sera appreciated President Prabowo Subianto for telling the history of major Islamic figures when he addressed the opening of the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States or PUIC in 2025. He said that all the parliamentary representatives of the OIC countries present not only applauded, but were stunned when they heard Prabowo's remarks.
“It is even more remarkable that President Prabowo Subianto cites and recounts the history of great men, from Umar Bin Khattab, Khalid Bin Walid, to Salahuddin Al-Ayyubi, and Muhammad Al-Fatih,” Mardani said after attending the opening of the 19th PUIC Conference.
